The Ministry of Works and Transport is a large sector Ministry made up of a number of Statutory Authorities, State Enterprises and Administrative/ Technical Divisions.
Established in 1956, the Ministry of Works and Transport (MOWT) is one of the largest ministries in Trinidad and Tobago with over 7,000 employees responsible for providing the infrastructure and transport services necessary for the social and economic development of the country.
In keeping with its mandate, the Ministry provides a range of services to its clientele and the general public which includes:
National planning for roads, drainage and transportation (air, sea and land)

Registration, classification, licensing and inspection of vehicles
Issuance of drivers’ permits
Enforcement of laws under the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act
Management and control of shipping within Trinidad and Tobago waters
Registration, licensing, survey, inspection and certification of ships
Enforcement of maritime laws
Negotiation and monitoring of air service agreements
