JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Reports To: Director
  • Supervises : Project Execution Officers, Project Officers, Research Officers, Junior Research Officers, Interns.

Job Summary

  • Reporting directly to the Director, the incumbent provides thorough research, scientific, technical, and administrative support, in order to facilitate the objectives of the Company and the fulfilment of its project related tasks. The Project Coordinator has the main responsibility for the overall management of the activities and tasks related to the GEF ISLANDS portfolio.
  • Must liaise with the Senior Technical Officer to ensure that there is a coherent approach to the project execution at the Centre.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Undertakes and executes the work for the ongoing projects, specifically as it relates to the GEF ISLANDS Programme Child Projects
  • Assists the Director in the preparation of quarterly and annual reports on the projects currently undertaken by the Centre
  • Prepares and reviews technical reports, project reports, briefing documents and makes presentations at meetings related to projects being executed
  • Assists with logistical arrangements for the hosting of meetings and technical workshops and seminars
  • Keeps abreast of new research in the field of waste and chemicals management
  • Under the guidance of the Director, prepares proposals for funding to local, regional and international donor funding partners
  • Assists the Director in the coordination and preparation of tender documents and the evaluation of tenders
  • Attends meetings, conferences, workshops and seminars on behalf of the Company
  • Trains staff members on their role as Project Coordinator through consistent sharing of information and guidance over an eight (8) month period to ensure succession planning
  • Performs any other related functions and responsibilities consistent with this role and any other duties assigned related to projects executed, including new projects that may be developed during the tenure of the incumbent.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively and work well in a team with the ability to lead and coordinate the team for successful execution of tasks.
  • Capable of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with project stakeholders and associates, including the ability and coordinate the team for successful execution of tasks
  • Knowledge of the objectives and obligations of wastes and chemicals related multilateral environmental agreement (MEAs)
  • Experience working with international organisations such as the Global Environment Facility, UN Agencies and the IDB is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to acquire, manipulate, analyse, manage and synthesize information gathered from a variety of sources with limited guidance
  • Ability to draft, edit and prepare clear correspondence and briefings
  • Knowledge of conducting research and evaluating research methodologies including analytical and quantitative skills
  • Adept ability to prepare clearly written reports, and present study findings to a formal audience and to the general public.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the adept ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Advanced Computer literacy with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Respectful of peers and their opinions and showing emotional intelligence
  • Fluency in Spanish would be considered an asset.

Minimum Experience and Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in environmental studies/management, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Waste Management and/or a related discipline in the natural sciences
  • Five (5) years previous work experience working in a multilateral environmental agreement setting and with large multidisciplinary projects would be considered an asset.
  • PMP or Prince Certification is mandatory.

Travel Requirements

  • Occasional overseas travel may be required, including on weekends.

Working Conditions

  • General office environment. The work area is adequately lighted and ventilated. Moderate noise level. Occasional exposure to prevalent weather conditions.
  • Field Work. Inspection, auditing, sampling and testing at the site of works for pilot projects.

Environmental Conditions

  • The incumbent may be occasionally exposed to temperature changes due to foreign travel.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent will be frequently required to sit, talk, listen and hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and use his / her hands and fingers to handle or operate objects, tools or controls.
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, and other office equipment.

Performance Criteria and Standards

  • Performance will be assessed based on the incumbent’s ability to carry out all assigned duties and responsibilities within the prescribed quality standards and timeframes.
