Job Title: Sales and Business Development Manager (Engineering) - Energy Sector

Summary:

We are looking for an experienced Sales and Business Development Manager with a strong engineering background specializing in the energy sector. The incumbent must have extensive experience and a proven track record in driving sales growth, forging strategic partnerships, and cultivating lasting client relationships. The candidate should be able to lead an engineering team and leverage their technical knowledge as well as industry insights to develop tailored solutions that meet the unique needs of the clients.

Responsibilities:

Sales Strategy Development:

  • Develop and implement strategic sales plans to achieve company objectives and revenue targets within the energy sector.
  • Conduct thorough market research and analysis to identify emerging trends, customer needs, and competitive dynamics.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align sales strategies with product development, marketing initiatives, and customer feedback.

Business Development:

  • Identify and cultivate new business opportunities by proactively prospecting and engaging with potential clients, including energy companies, utilities, and engineering firms.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders in the energy sector, leveraging industry connections and networking events.
  • Lead negotiations for contracts, partnerships, and joint ventures, ensuring favorable terms and mutually beneficial agreements.

Technical Expertise:

  • Provide technical support and guidance to clients, addressing their specific engineering challenges and recommending customized solutions.
  • Stay abreast of industry developments, regulatory requirements, and technological advancements in the energy sector to inform sales strategies and product offerings.
  • Ensure compliance with the established Quality Management System in relation to the Process Systems and Solutions and IT Departments.
  • Meet and exceed support requirements for Control and Information Technology systems.
  • Contribute to the development of the company’s annual strategic plans.
  • Effectively develop and execute the departments’ operational plans in alignment with the established strategic plans.
  • Provide engineering and technical lead support to team members, existing and potential clients.
  • Develop and implement training and development plans for all direct reports to maintain an effective engineering and IT team and enhance personal development.
  • Provide guidance, coaching and mentoring to direct reports.
  • Facilitate the development of team members by knowledge sharing and transfer and by providing timely performance feedback and guidance, to support the achievement of individual and departmental goals.
  • Support other departments in the adoption and execution of sound engineering practices.
  • Lead in observing and promoting the company’s vision and core values with team members.
  • Develop and implement business development goals and objectives to support the company’s growth initiatives.
  • Works as an individual contributor and in collaboration with mechanical / electrical / plumbing (MEP) engineers, consultants, equipment vendors, construction managers, trade contractors, property management and other internal / external organizations
  • Performing engineering assignments (production, maintenance, process, capital projects,) involving the application of established instrumentation and process control technology and principles and often requiring coordination with other engineering and functional competencies to provide economical and expedient task implementation.

Sales Performance Monitoring:

  • Track and analyze sales metrics, including revenue forecasts, pipeline development, and conversion rates, to measure progress against targets and identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepare regular sales reports and presentations for senior management, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and opportunities within the energy market.
  • Implement corrective actions and adjustments to sales strategies as needed to optimize performance and maximize profitability.

Team Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Lead a team of engineers and IT professionals, providing mentorship, coaching, and guidance to foster their professional development and success.
  • Collaborate closely with internal departments, including marketing, engineering, and operations, to ensure alignment and synergy across business functions.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and customer-centricity within the sales team, driving continuous improvement and excellence in customer service.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • A minimum of Ten (10) years’ relevant technical experience, with at least Five (5) years in a managerial capacity.
  • Proven track record of success in sales and business development roles within the energy sector, with a focus on engineering solutions.
  • Strong technical background and understanding of energy systems, renewable energy technologies, and industry best practices.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and credibility with clients and stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze market trends, identify opportunities, and develop innovative solutions to meet customer needs.
  • Leadership experience, including managing sales teams and driving performance in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in CRM software, Microsoft Office suite, and other sales productivity tools.
  • Flexibility to travel as needed to meet with clients, attend industry events, and participate in business meetings.
